BEESTON CASTLE
Image 1

Beeston Castle has the most spectacular view of any castle in England. This 'Castle of the Rock' stands majestically on a sheer rocky crag with commanding panoramas of eight counties, from the Pennines to the Welsh mountains. The 4,000 year-old story of this formidable fortress, revealed in the Castle of the Rock exhibition, encompasses conquest, siege and whispers of buried treasure. Following redevelopment, Beeston Castle now boasts almost forty acres of landscaped woodland and pathways. These walks take in previously hidden sections of the castle's moat and ruined walls and provide glimpses of nature, including birds of prey and fungi displays. Beeston Castle is a perfect picnic spot - remember to bring your camera and binoculars to enjoy the stunning views from the summit. The Visitor Centre in the Victorian gatehouse houses the exhibition and gift shop, and hot and cold drinks are available.
